About

Hello! My name is Eric. I'm a queer, non-binary documentary film editor — originally from Ohio, now based in Oakland — with over a decade of experience shaping compelling, character-driven nonfiction stories.

I’ve collaborated with directors across the country on projects ranging from feature documentaries to short-form storytelling and branded content. I'm drawn to narratives about human rights, nature, and anything that gives a voice to the voiceless.

My work has screened at festivals such as Sundance, San Francisco Film Festival, Frameline, Mountain Film Festival, Rocky Mountain Women's Film Festival, and more — and aired on platforms like PBS and Netflix.

In 2017, I was awarded a Regional Emmy Award for my work.

I also have perpetual baby-face, but I assure you I'm 37.

Editing Philosophy

Editing — particularly with nonfiction — is an exercise in empathy. I believe it is my job to listen to the material that is provided and then reflect back what I see. I strive to minimize personal bias and highlight the truths of those being portrayed. I believe editing is a collaborative process, and I want to make your vision a reality.

Editing is like bumper bowling: you set up the pins, install the guardrails, and hope the audience walks away with a strike. Ultimately, we can't roll the ball for them. But it's my role to listen to your objectives so the audience can hit as many pins as possible.

Process

I'm comfortable leading an edit, jumping into a work-in-progress, or collaborating closely with directors to finesse a cut.

After discussing your vision, I like to allow myself to be absorbed by the material and find the best path to highlighting your goals. I will never be afraid to voice an opinion if I believe a perspective needs to be heard; but I believe that film is a collaboration and I will do anything I can to serve your vision.
